Professionalism — The Key of Success on eBay

January 28th, 2010

You have probably wondered many times why there are people who have such a great success on eBay and people who fail to make money on this site, when the possibilities they have are equal and the eBay tools available to everyone. The answer is quite simple: just like in any business there are professional people who have taken it seriously and people who thought they will succeed no matter what they did (which proved to be a false theory).

But what means to be professional when you are selling things on eBay? To be professional means to treat your potential customers with equal care, to answer all of their emails, phone calls and text messages, to give them all the details they need and make them feel like they are really important to you. Talking politely, on a friendly, yet detached tone and trying to give them the information they need without being patronizing are another features which will help you create a professional image. Such a behavior will certainly attract more and more people and will determine them to come back whenever they want to buy something.

Also, writing clear, informative and mistake free descriptions and including high quality photos are things which must be done by a professional. People trust more those sellers who give enough details about the products they sell, without boring their audience and are more comfortable buying online when they have more photos about the item they want to purchase. And when I am talking about photos I mean real photos of the item, photos you have taken with your camera, not stock photos which can be downloaded from the internet.

Being a professional on eBay means to be prompt in shipping the products you sold, to choose the best shipping method available and to give your client the possibility of a refund if he is not satisfied with the product you have sent him. Most of the eBay powersellers have these features available and manage to attract numerous customers by means of them.

Being professional means dedicating most of your time and effort to this business, sometimes means that as long as you have products listed on eBay you can have no vacation. However, when it comes to drawing the line, there are a lot of financial differences, too between a professional who has done his job right and an amatory who just had some fun by trying to sell things on eBay.

Could Your Business Benefit From Being on eBay?

January 28th, 2010

In these financially troubled times many small businesses are looking for ways to expand their markets and increase turnover. It is not surprising that many see eBay as an opportunity to do just that. After all eBay is one of the largest online retail sites with over 180 million buyers annually.

Therefore it is easy to see why it can appear such an inviting option but many small companies have discovered it is not as easy as it looks. In fact some have invested heavily only to make losses and retire from the fray. If you are thinking of trying to break into this market here are some of the points you should consider.

Do your homework first. eBay has been online in the USA since 1995 and the UK since 1999. Over that period a large number of companies and individuals have mastered the techniques that are required to be successful on eBay. They are experts and you are going to be competing against them.

If you can, appoint one person to be responsible for your eBay business. Get them to buy some things from the site; this will not only give them a little experience but help build up your companies’ feedback. Get them to study your competitors on eBay, look at their listings, prices and general way they operate. The idea is that you are going to look for their strengths so that you can copy them and their weaknesses so that profit from them.

There is no other marketplace where you can monitor your competition as completely as eBay. You can not only find out what they sell but how many for how much. Once all this information has been gathered you can begin the planning phase.

If you already have a bricks and mortar business there should be little need for any big investment. You will probably be selling items online that you already stock. In most cases anything you sell online at above cost will represent additional business profit. (Not forgetting to take out eBay and PayPal costs of course).

Planning is going to be critical to your success but the other important point is that you should continually monitor both your companies performance and that of eBay. It is an ever changing market and what works this year may not work next. However, with careful planning and good control eBay could offer you a good way to increase turnover.

Give Up Garage Sales and Start Selling on eBay

January 28th, 2010

World evolves, the way businesses are made evolves, but some things never change! Like the old garage sales which keep having a lot of success among all types of citizens. Yet, in spite of their popularity things have to change in this direction, too. If you are one of those melancholic people who like to put their old stuff on the lawn and sell them to the passersby you should try to give up and make real money out of your items.

Sometimes not doing something you used to do for years may be difficult, but when there are more money at stake nothing is impossible. In fact, there have been many people who have given up selling things at garage sales and have started selling items on eBay because it was more profitable. And if you come to think about it, there are indeed more chances to sell something on eBay and get profit, than if you put it on sale in front of your garage.

First of all because there are more people who can see the items you have listed on eBay, far more than those who could possibly see it if you were selling it on your lawn. The more visitors you have the greater chances are to find more people interested in the same item. And you know that where there is competition, there are also higher prices.

Secondly, you have more tools to promote your products. You can send newsletters to your clients, you can write catchy titles and descriptions that will attract more and more people. The advantages of this fact can be read in the above paragraph.

And as this was not enough, there is another advantage: that of the time. If the garage sales can be organized only at weekends, the eBay listings are there for as long as you want: a day, a week or even more, so more people can see them and bid on the products.

I am sure that the above mentioned arguments have convinced you to try selling things on eBay instead of garage sales. eBay sales may not have the same charm as garage sales, but they are certainly more comfortable and bring more money in your pockets.

Exploit Your eBay Account at Maximum

January 28th, 2010

For many people a seller account on eBay is nothing more than a passport which allows them to sell and sometimes buy products on and from eBay. Yet, an eBay account can be much more useful if you know how to take advantage of it.

If you are an eBay seller and want to make more money but do not know how, here is one tip: use your eBay account! You can make more money by filling in the “About Me’ page on eBay. This page has as main purpose that of giving information about the sellers, but let’s be honest, nobody wants to know if you are married and how old is you cat. Instead people are interested from where else they can purchase items similar to those you have on sale on eBay or where they can find information about the products they have just bought. You can give them these details in the “About Me” page and include links to your website. Yes, you are allowed to do that. This way you get more exposure for your site and more visitors on it. It is like having your website advertised for free. And you know that the key of success in commerce is advertising.

The other brilliant way in which you can make a lot of money is that of including affiliate links in your “About Me” page. If you do not have your own website to promote, you can advertise others’ sites. All you have to do is write few words about one topic related to the site you want to promote and then include a link as further example or information. If the client visits that website you get some money. If he also buys something from there, you get a sum of money for every product he has bought. So, if you have loyal clients which take your advice, you can make a lot of money by affiliating your eBay account to others’ sites.

These two ideas can bring you more money from your eBay account, without too much effort from your part. So, if there are possibilities, why let them go away and not take advantage of them!?!

Branded Products Are Always Sold For Big Money on eBay

January 27th, 2010

In the latest years eBay has represented for many a closed market where only the old or very lucky sellers were accepted. Even though I do not totally subscribe to this idea, I must admit that nowadays is harder to get in the branch of eBay powersellers.

The reasons are many and quite easy to find. First of all because there are a lot of old sellers who try to maintain their position; secondly because there are few uncovered niches on eBay and thirdly because people have become more reticent to buy from sellers who have no few or no ratings because of the scams who make their living by cheating people on eBay.

Yet, when you want something and work hard enough for it, nothing is important. If you are one of those who really want to start an eBay business, here is one tip which may help you: no matter of the niche you want to cover, NEVER sell products no-one has ever heard about. You may think that being original is the key of success and that you will have a lot of money if you come up with something new. This may be true for other markets, but on eBay people look for things they know and have previously bought. Especially now, when the budget s tighter, people do not want to spend their money on products they know nothing about.

Because of this you should start your business with branded products. People know what they are buying and trust you more, because you have the courage to continue marketing quality products even in times of crisis, when most sellers opt to sell cheaper products. Also, you will not have such a great task in advertising your products, because if you are selling a branded product people already know what it does and how good it is. So, you will not need to spend your time explaining your customers what this product or the other is all about.

Selling branded products has many advantages and can bring you great profits if you are willing to try it out. No matter what type of products you want to buy or if you are going to focus on old or new items, as long as people have heard about them and are satisfied with them, you can be sure you will make a small fortune by selling them on eBay.
